You're doing fine now. But do you actually know what future your finances support?
For you, and the planet.
Maybe it's a crossroads at work, or that milestone birthday that made you realise how quickly life is passing by, or a life event that made the second half of life suddenly feel scarily real. Whatever brought you here, you're asking a question most people put off for years: am I actually on track?
The Financial Future MOT gives you a clear, honest answer – impartial, rigorous, and free from anyone trying to sell you something.
Is this for you?
You may (or may not) be doing well. Either way, you have never had a clear – or crucially impartial – picture of what your financial future actually looks like. You are starting to think seriously about the second half of life, and want honest answers rather than a sales pitch.
You might be at a career crossroads. You might simply be tired of corporate life. Counting down the days to when you can retire. Thinking about when you can afford to step back, or afford to take a risk on a wild business idea. Perhaps you're processing a significant life event. Or simply reaching a point where the question won't go away any longer.
But also you may be seeing what's happening to the world around you. The trajectory the planet is on. Wondering how this is going to impact me, my future and that of my loved ones. Also, how can I play my part in changing that trajectory – and leave a legacy I can be proud of.
These aren't separate questions. Honest financial planning looks at all of them together – which is exactly what the MOT does.
About Neil
Honest financial expertise. No products. No agenda.
Over 20 years managing financial risk for institutions. Now helping individuals do the same – on their own terms.
I'm Neil Dissanayake - actuary, financial risk manager, certified total wealth planner, and founder of Planet Positive Planning. I've spent over two decades in financial risk analysis for major financial institutions, and I now apply the same rigour to individuals looking for honest, impartial guidance.
I work entirely on a fixed-fee basis - no commissions, no percentage of assets, no product selling, no agenda beyond giving you a clear picture of where you stand.
Alongside Planet Positive Planning, I continue to work part-time at the cutting edge of financial risk – currently developing innovative solutions to help retirees generate reliable income whilst staying invested in markets. It helps me keep my thinking sharp, my expertise current and my pulse on what's happening in the industry.
I also trained as a life and total wealth planner through the Academy of Life Planning, because I believe good financial planning has to start with designing the life you actually want – not the other way round. Your wealth is more than just what's in your bank balance or pension pot. It includes you, your health, your capacity to create wealth, the home you live in, your network, your sense of purpose, and yes – the health of the planet you live on. Real wealth is all of these things in balance. The MOT is where we start to see the full picture.
Prefer to hear it from me directly? I've recorded a short video explaining who I am, why I started Planet Positive Planning, and what honest financial guidance actually looks like.
An introduction from Neil
Prefer to read more? The video covers the professional reason. There's a personal one too — I wrote about it back in January 2025, watching the Los Angeles fires, and added an honest note eighteen months on about how it's been going since: When the Los Angeles fires became a catalyst.

My entry on the FCA Register relates to my part-time institutional role at Milliman. Planet Positive Planning provides educational financial services, which do not require FCA regulation.

What does the MOT actually give you?
A clear, honest picture of where you stand – across four areas.
An honest assessment of your current financial strength. Where your foundations are solid, where there are gaps, and where the quick wins are – the things you could act on now that would meaningfully improve your position.
A clear view of what you can afford at retirement. Actuarial modelling of your retirement affordability - accounting for a realistic view of future risks, including the long-term financial impact of a changing climate. Not a sales pitch. Just the numbers, done with an honest view of the future.
A total wealth perspective. Your money doesn't exist in isolation. The MOT looks at the full picture – your savings, pension and investments alongside your earning potential, any home you own and what it costs to run (I'll look up its EPC where there is one), your health, your relationships, your purpose – because you can't judge one part of it without seeing the rest.
How your money sits alongside the planet. How your spending, savings, and investments align with a planet-positive life – and where there's scope to do more.
How it works
Four steps. Two weeks.
- Complete the questionnaire. A structured set of questions covering your financial picture, priorities and values. Around an hour – done in your own time, and at your own pace.
- Share your financial numbers. A simple form capturing the key figures – income, expenses, savings, investments, debts, property. Shared with Neil via a secure private folder. Data stays between you and him.
- Receive your personalised MOT report. Neil uses AI tools to support the analysis, but reviews everything carefully and personally produces a written report across all four areas – including your strengths, and where you could do better. Sent before your call so you have time to read it first.
- MOT review call with Neil. A 45-minute Zoom to walk through the findings together, explore what stands out, and agree what to prioritise next.
Important Information
Planet Positive Planning Ltd is a financial coaching, planning and education service – not a product seller, not an investment adviser.
Here's what that means in practice:
- I help you understand your finances and make better decisions – I don't make decisions for you.
- I provide financial planning guidance – not specific investment advice. I won't recommend a particular fund, product or provider, and I don't arrange or sell anything.
- I charge a flat fee only – never a percentage of your assets.
- I sell no financial products and earn no commissions – ever.
- Because of all of the above, I can act entirely in your interests – and if the right answer is to do nothing, it costs me nothing to say so.
My services (the MOT and the coaching that can follow) are defined as educational financial services under FCA guidance (look this up here: PERG 8.26), which means they don't require FCA regulation. They are governed by UK consumer protection law.
